Div 7 was a relatively new team, with a mix of new players, veterans and younger players moving up through the grades. As a large diverse team, our first few games were challenging while we learnt to play together. We achieved record attendances this season and while this provided some additional challenges in player pitch time and the co-ordination of subs, it also resulted in positive team behaviour in terms of position versatility, flexibility and allowing us all to take a break when needed. The commitment of each player was commendable and our team spirit was maintained even through a lengthy losing streak. . It was impressive to see all team members supporting each other and encouraging one another to play their best.
The improvement in Div 7 was very noticeable mid way through the season as we fell into our groove and managed to notch up a few wins. Unfortunately the overall season results didn’t reflect our commitment, team spirit and enthusiasm. The general consensus amongst the players of Div 7 was that they were looking forward to playing together next season.
All in all Div 7 were a great group of women to play soccer with.
The girls in division 9 this year were a mix of players from the very successful 2006 division 9 and a bunch of new players, so we were faced with start of season challenges like remembering each others names, getting a handle on the rules, the loss of a few key people from the previous season and the start of season fitness challenge.
It didn’t take us too long to settle in though and the girls were a really passionate, enthusiastic and dedicated bunch to play with plus, an outstanding group for ‘team bonding’ at the pub with!
We had some great games with very impressive score lines (7 nil springs to mind) but unfortunately we copped a few injuries early on and lost a few players which meant we were short a full team for a couple of important games in the middle of the season.
It looked like we were a shoe in for the pennant at the end of the season but after a tough game thrashed out in the sun bought us draw we had to settle for what we will call, ‘runners up’ for the pennant.
Overall it was a really great season and I felt like the girls and I really developed our ball skills, fitness, ability to recall first names and keep our feet grounded during throw ins which rewarded us a much more cohesive game by the end of the year.
Looking forward to doing it all again next season!
