The 2017 Committee and Contacts
The Flying Bats is coordinated entirely by a committee of hard-working (and unpaid!) volunteers. Here are the committee members for 2017.
Look out for their friendly faces if you’re new to the club or drop them an email if you have a burning question – or just any question really. :D
President – Emily Shrubb

My best football asset is my humble willingness to allow Greenie to tidy up any defensive disasters I cause. (Thanks mate!)
My standout Bats moment is my "cross" from midfield that accidentally sneaked into the top left corner of the goal!
My game day breakfast of champions is very small - can't have it weighing me down! Post-game I rehydrate with a beer
My go to Golden Barley meal is the lamb burger
My go to karaoke song is ... I am a karaoke-free zone My favourite other sports are ALL THE SPORTS (golf is not a sport)

My advice for new Bats is get amongst it! The club has so much to offer those who throw themselves in

I’ve been a Bat since moving to Sydney in 2012
I usually play anywhere south of midfield
Some people would say my best football asset is my speed but I put many of my football successes down to my bony elbows and lanky limbs
My standout Bats moment is the Mardi Gras parade 2014
My football theme song is Tom Petty – I Won’t Back Down
My game day breakfast of champions is anything …. if someone else is cooking for me Post-game I rehydrate with beer, beer, water and maybe another beer
My go to Golden Barley meal was the share plate/platter with chorizo etc, but it doesn’t appear to be on the menu anymore #insertsadfacehere
My advice for new Bats is to have fun and remember it's just a game

I’ve been a Bat since… 2015 (this will be my 3rd season)- it was the first time I had ever played football!
I usually play... midfield
My best football asset is... being able to laugh at myself and have fun with the Div 8 team
My standout Bats moment is scoring my first goal!

My game day breakfast of champions is coffee and banana

My favourite other sports are tennis, netball and most recently AFL My guilty pleasures are rom-coms and trash tv My advice for new Bats is that if you are new to football, this would have to be the most supportive and encouraging environment to learn to play. Plus you get to meet some awesome people.

I've been a Bat since... 2003 (this is my 14th season in a row!)
I usually play number 11 - striker/left wing
My best football asset is... determination. I never give up.

My game day breakfast of champions is poached eggs or avocado on toast.
My standout Bats moment is probably the classic one of trying to pry someone out of a baby high chair during a Trivia Night and having to get police rescue to come and cut them out. There have been plenty of others.
My go to Golden Barley meal is a schooner of Monteith's.
My advice for new Bats is to have fun!

My best football asset is... not being afraid of the ball or of running into people (sometimes also a liability!)
My standout Bats moment is when I had to fill in as goalie last year and we won a game! My football theme song: Up until recently my car stereo didn't work, but I have a feeling next season it will be Wild Strawberries By Pnau

My favourite other sports are NRL & tennis My advice for new Bats is to immerse yourself in the culture of the club and get involved in anything and everything you can! ... I remember how nervous I was having to toddle over to grading without knowing a single Bat, but to be honest joining was the best decision I ever made. The Bats are the greatest bunch of people you will ever meet!

I’ve been a Bat since 2007. I think. At least that's what social media suggests.
I usually play left or right back
My best football asset is mostly getting up after I fall over. I fall over a lot.
My standout Bats moments are mostly on the dancefloor. Oh, and winning a grand final that one time. Also losing a couple.
My go to karaoke song is shouty, drunk, and out of tune. It's the best song ever!
If I could steal a skill from another player from any division ... I would wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller ... My game day breakfast of champions is eggs on toast. Post-game I re-hydrate with a beer. It's science!
My go to Golden Barley meal is the kiddie size pasta or the adult size roast of the day.
My advice for new Bats is to get involved, go to all the things.

My standout Bats moment is going through a season and grand final undefeated

My game day breakfast of champions is filet-o-fish
Post-game I rehydrate with Powerade and then a cup of tea. Winning, I know!!
My go to Golden Barley meal the schnitzel!! Don't forget the mushroom gravy and chips!!
My perfect sandwich is ham, cheese and tomato, lightly salted on freshly cut white bread, extra crusty My go to karaoke song is Anything really as I love to sing. Doesn't mean I can though, just ask my daughter!!
My favourite other sports are Rugby league, basketball, softball, anything really that involves fast moving balls and women!! My guilty pleasure is mint chocolate and red wine My advice for new Bats is Just say hi. Someone will always say hi back. Oh, and laugh at yourself, especially on the pitch! Take a chance, even if you haven't kicked a ball in ages. We're all beginners at some time... And get involved!!
The Bats to me are: Welcoming, multi skilled, soccer ball loving ladies who know how to rip up the dance floor at Palms!!
Social/General – Pippa Algar
People know me as Pip (such a crazy nickname!)
I’ve been a Bat for 5 years and counting
I usually play midfield or defence.
I'm a hockey player who has made the transition ... still learning to run without a stick and not look like a weirdo. Not quite mastered it yet.
My standout Bats moment has to be the Pride parade from 2015. Nothing beats a good old all-day bender with an awesome bunch of girls with outfits (or lack of).
My pre-game ritual is a good catch up with the ream pre-warm up. Very essential stuff.
Post-game I rehydrate with beer. Win = Carlton. Loss = Jagerbomb + lots of Carltons.
My go to Golden Barley meal is the roast. Always the roast.
My advice for new Bats is: Team bonding. Teams who drink together may not win all the time but they sure have a great time playing.
