The Linda Patterson Award has been established to provide encouragement and support to a member of the Flying Bats Women’s Football Club who wants to undertake a short-term creative project or educational/personal development activity that reflects the values of the late Linda Patterson.
Linda Patterson was one of the founders of the Flying Bats Women’s Football Club in the mid-1980s and demonstrated courage, compassion, leadership and a commitment to social justice and the creative arts throughout her life. Her legacy lives on through the Flying Bats Women’s Football Club and through her contribution to the arts and cultural field.
This Award is decided on an annual basis by a panel with an association to the Flying Bats Women’s Football Club. The grant of $2,000 will be awarded to the selected applicant prior to commencement of the project/activity and the award will be available for new applicants each year from 2018 for 3 years. At the conclusion of the project the Awardee must report on the project outcomes via a one-page report (or similar) to the Flying Bats Women’s Football Club Committee.
The following selection criteria will be applied. Both the project itself and the applicant will be assessed.
The successful applicant will:
- have designed a feasible creative project or outlined an educational/personal development activity that reflects a commitment to social justice, creative arts, the LGBTIQ community or similar;
- will be able to demonstrate that this project can be achieved within the space of one year;
- is able to demonstrate a commitment to the Flying Bats Women’s Football Club;
- has the potential to be a positive role model for others and support a friendly and inclusive Club environment.
