The Flying Bats is coordinated entirely by a committee of hard-working (and unpaid!) volunteers. Here are the committee members for 2018.
Look out for their friendly faces if you’re new to the club or drop them an email if you have a burning question – or just any question really. :D
President – Emily Shrubb
I’ve been a Bat for a whole entire decade!
I usually play defence
My best football asset is my humble willingness to allow Greenie to tidy up any defensive disasters I cause. (Thanks mate!)
My standout Bats moment is my "cross" from midfield that accidentally sneaked into the top left corner of the goal!
My game day breakfast of champions is very small - can't have it weighing me down! Post-game I rehydrate with a beer
My go to Golden Barley meal is the lamb burger
My go to karaoke song is ... I am a karaoke-free zone My favourite other sports are ALL THE SPORTS (golf is not a sport)

My advice for new Bats is get amongst it! The club has so much to offer those who throw themselves in

I’ve been a Bat for three years
I usually play anywhere but keeper. Unless you have a vested interest in losing by double digits
Some people would say my best football asset is an exceptionally loud voice and lack of fear to use it
My standout Bats moment is first season camaraderie. Div 9 represent
My football theme song? I generally enjoy sad songs by brooding men, so not so much on the peppy theme songs
My game day breakfast of champions is coffee, bagels, and as much of anything else as I can reasonably stomach without vomiting Post-game I rehydrate with a cleansing ale and a smokey dram

My perfect sandwich is anything with pickles
My go to karaoke song is... nope, nope, nope

I usually play... midfield
My best football asset is... not being afraid of the ball or of running into people (sometimes also a liability!)
My standout Bats moment is when I had to fill in as goalie last year and we won a game! My football theme song: Up until recently my car stereo didn't work, but I have a feeling next season it will be Wild Strawberries By Pnau

My favourite other sports are NRL & tennis My advice for new Bats is to immerse yourself in the culture of the club and get involved in anything and everything you can! ... I remember how nervous I was having to toddle over to grading without knowing a single Bat, but to be honest joining was the best decision I ever made. The Bats are the greatest bunch of people you will ever meet!

I usually play left or right back
My best football asset is mostly getting up after I fall over. I fall over a lot.
My standout Bats moments are mostly on the dancefloor. Oh, and winning a grand final that one time. Also losing a couple.
My go to karaoke song is shouty, drunk, and out of tune. It's the best song ever!
If I could steal a skill from another player from any division ... I would wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller ... My game day breakfast of champions is eggs on toast. Post-game I re-hydrate with a beer. It's science!

My advice for new Bats is to get involved, go to all the things.

My my best football asset is my occasional bursts of speed and willingness to share sunscreen.
My standout Bats moment is scoring a goal in my first year. It was not the fastest ball in history, but watching it chug its precious little way along the ground and into the goal was a an amazing moment that I got to share with some very cool teammates.
My football theme song? Never Give Up - Sia
My game day breakfast of champions is a banana and green tea. Do not eat a large custard tart or last night's curry. Post-game I rehydrate with water.
My go to Golden Barley meal is a burger and chips
My perfect sandwich is a cheese and tomato toastie
My go to karaoke song is Total Eclipse of the Heart (80s, baby!)
My favourite other sports are ... let's just say that for me, playing soccer was an entry point into the sporting world. My guilty pleasure is doughnuts! My advice for new Bats is you are never too old to learn new skills and surprise yourself. I was super nervous about turning up to the first training session but I've never looked back. Take that first step.

I usually play a free form interpretation of striker.
My best football asset is my pitch speak and voice projection. Those years of vocal training finally paid off.
My standout Bats moment is playing in PFA my first season - I'd never played football before - then performing with the Rangers/Bats at the Midnight Shift after-party. It wasn’t Beyoncé, but I was proud.
My go to football theme song is We Are Family – Sister Sledge.
My game day breakfast of champions is nothing. I can’t eat and play or I get to enjoy my breakfast a second time on the pitch.
Post-game I rehydrate with sweet, sweet wine.
My go to Golden Barley meal wine… sweet, sweet wine. (Everybody loves a theme.)
My perfect sandwich is chilli mayo, rocket, grape toms, cucumbers, salt and pepper, zesty cheese (think Mersey Valley) and mustard on toasted soy and linseed sourdough… in that order. My go to karaoke song? Sadly I’m allergic to karaoke but I have been known to rock out some impromptu Careless Whisper in a more informal setting.
My favourite other sports are spectating. Luckily an understanding of the rules in not required - sometimes it even hinders enjoyment My guilty pleasure is Malbec. It's not so heavy on the guilty bit. My advice for new Bats is put your name down for all-of-the-things. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Reap those glittery rewards.
